Changes to my study programme
Hello bloggers, This week I am going to talk to you about the curriculum of my career in Forestry Engineering. When a person interested in my career asks me questions about my study programme I always answer him the positive things, For example, We have a practical activity the first week of classes in the first year of the career. It consists of traveling to Pantanillos for a week with your classmates. There the teachers teach you different activities that a Forestry Engineer performs. I think it is an excellent way to start, because from the beginning there is a knowledge of the career you are studying. However, I would like to make some changes in the subjects you have to study, I would modify all subjects that are annual. I would convert the annual subjects into semesters, for example I would divide the annual subject "Componentes abióticos de los Ecosistemas" into three subjects: Climatology, Geology and Soil Science, because each one has its importance separately.
I would like that in my career there are more subjects focused on climate change and sustainability projects, because it is essential to have some of that knowledge to face the problems that the world has now. For example, some electives such as Carbon Footprint, Hydrology and Social Ecology were mandatory subjects.
Also, I would like to modify the workload and length of study. I think with the pandemic some positive things came up that could be done next year when the classes go back to face-to-face. For example, shortening the duration of each class helps to maintain adequate concentration and the weeks of recess help to reduce the academic load.
Regarding the infrastructure of my faculty, I think the rooms should be bigger because each student would have a better view of the blackboard and there would be better ventilation of the place. I believe that technologies are important, but it is more important to learn outside the classroom, for example in laboratories or practical activities, because there the teaching method is different. Seeing, touching, and appreciating nature makes me learn better and not forget what I have been taught.
I totally agree with you, the SIMBAE subject must be separated and the subjects related to climate change must be taught.
ResponderEliminarI feel the same as you, we should prioritize practical learning instead of the theoretical
ResponderEliminarHi Panchi,Is true! The forest engineering curriculum must be improved by integrating the challenges of climate change
ResponderEliminarhi panchi, i think the same about the curriculum must be more thinking in the future and the changes that will have
